紫票福元昌与红标宋聘，被誉为茶王茶后。福元昌在拍卖中更为少见。

易武山普洱茶事业已逐渐崛起，更早时期已经建有一条运送贡茶古道。

元昌号茶庄在光绪年间中期，在易武大街开设了茶厂分行，叫“福元昌”茶庄，专门采用易武山大叶种普洱茶菁，制造精选茶品，以供普洱茶品茗者。光绪末年，云南南部所有的茶庄和茶厂，都因为地方治安恶化，疾病流行，而几乎全部歇业停产。直至1921年左右，福元昌号茶庄再度复业营运。

福元昌号创于光绪初年，在倚邦和易武两大茶山设制茶厂，演绎出清代普洱茶最为辉煌的篇章。其中“元昌号”设于易武的茶厂名为“福元昌号”，专门采用有别于倚邦小叶茶种的易武山大叶种普洱茶叶，制造精选茶品。

福元昌圆茶的内飞共有三种色纸，为蓝、红紫、白三色。规格约为11公分，正方形，橘红底色，蓝色图字，四边框以云纹图案，内写明：“本号在易武山大街开张福元昌……以图为记，庶不致误，余福生白”。共88字。

余福生者，即元昌号和福元昌号茶庄的主人。另外，每饼还有一张5×7.5公分内飞一张，也有图案及余福生告白，颜色分蓝、紫、白3种，字迹为朱红色。蓝紫两色内飞的茶品，属阳刚型；此茶内飞为紫票，采用最优良的大叶种普洱茶菁斤制，茶叶厚大，条索宽扁，油光淡薄但茶气浓。经过时代醇化，底蕴极其沉稳，入口自然的香韵，属多层次而有爆发力，收藏价值极高。
